Pull up a pew, we’re going to have a chat with our CEO, founder and King of all things Oaf, Gemma. Now, we’re not sure if you’ve met Gem before, so let us tell you her story - Gemma grew up above pubs in London and as a kid was well obsessed with drawing, then when she got a bit older she went to Uni to study textile design, and became a bit obsessed with printing. Can you see where this is going...? In 2001, she bought these two obsessions together, and started printing her designs onto t-shirts, and flogging them on an East End market.
Flash forward through 20 years of Oaf empire cultivation, going from having her Mum as the only employee to having a team of over 40, from a few t-shirts to countless creative collections and collaborations...and there’s Gem. Probably right this minute sitting in the shed down the bottom of her garden (aka the ‘Gem Cave’), still scribbling away, working on the latest Lazy Oaf designs two decades after printing her first tee.
So we reckon it’s only right that we mark this momentous occasion of our 20th birthday with a cuppa tea and a catch up with Gem, the woman who started it all, to find out what has gone down over the years, and what the future holds.
