Personal Space - Invader Girl Interview
Charged and ready to invade your space in 2016, its about time you got to know Invader Girl. Energetic model by day / cyber pop enigma by night - the superhero pseudonym quickly starts to make sense. On a cold stroll around North London's concrete walkways, we tapped her cosmic style to showcase our latest Winter layers. Don't be fooled by the cold stare, this lil songstress is as cute as a fluffy kitten... How did you get your moniker 'Invader Girl' ? I've always wanted to be a superhero so a kickass name is probably the closest I'll ever get haha! She's my pop alter ego, and basically who I'd be if I was less awkward and much cooler... I on the other hand, am a nerdy musician trying really hard to be as confident as Invader Girl on a daily basis. Where did your spaceship originally crash land? I was born and raised in Denmark! My mother's Danish and my dad is Jamaican. I've lived in the UK for a while though - I have a totally British accent which confuses people. Favourite spots in London? Iâve just discovered this crazy pub by the water in Wapping, called The Prospect of Whitby. It's the oldest pub in London. It kinda looks like the Leaky Cauldron in Harry Potter...I wanna buy a big houseboat and live next to it with a million cats. What's a typical day in your life? Most of the time I am hidden away in my studio like a little troll, writing and playing with synth sounds, but sometimes I get to do exciting stuff like video shoots, fun events or travelling around. Can you describe your personal style? At the moment it's a lot of pastels, metallics and fluff, fitted around a monochrome base. I probably look like an assortment of sugary desserts a lot of the time! I really dig the 90âs thing, because its all the clothes you dreamed of wearing as a child but weren't quite old enough to get away with. We're all living out some kind of childhood fashion fantasy right now. Fashion should be fun, not taken too seriously - but I still appreciate great quality. When you wear Lazy Oaf people stop you in the street and ask you where itâs from, I love it! We hear you design clothes too? What's next on your wishlist? I really want to design a giant mermaid tail for my next video. Not exactly wearable, but will be so much fun! Are you a Winter baby? No, usually i'm all about Summer, Winter can go fuck itself ! If I could just hibernate like a tiny bear all season I would, but I do like skiing somewhere pretty and frosty. You recently played at our Casper Launch Party! What would be your dream mix? Oh thank you for having me. I loved that event! The Casper collection is adorable. Hmmm I think the most important thing about DJ'ing is to never ever be pretentious about it. You're not playing for yourself, you're playing to make sure everyone in the room has a fun time. So peering into a galaxy not so far away, what can we expect from you in 2016? I'm releasing my first EP, and i'll be gigging all over the planet ! I just started rehearsing a few weeks ago with a full band, it's sounding awesome, I'm beyond excited. Any Resolutions?
