Jelly shoes by Jelly Gummies
Tumblr is full of many deliciously weird animated gifs, but nothing has ever put us in a dizzy trance as much as the 3D gif paradise Jelly Gummies. The brainchild of oddbod designer Sam Lyon, each wobbly character is equal parts delicious, equal parts squirm. So who better to reimagine our new #JuJuxLazyOaf collection? Wibble wobble wibble wobble jelly shoes on a plate... How would you describe your aesthetic? I like to make everything look a bit off and slightly melted, it's more interesting when things aren't quite perfect. JuJus are great for that because it's easy to turn them into juicier or wrinklier versions of themselves, since they're already made out of plastic jelly. How do you make each artwork? The program I use for the 3D models works a lot like real clay does, its called Sculptris. You can stretch everything, add extra clay on top and more or less do everything you can in real life sculpting. The finished thing can be more difficult to animate, but it's worth it for the more organic feel. Each shoe was made in sections from the sole up and then arranged together on another programme called Blender, which allows for texture and movement. Why did you shift from flat illustration to 3-dimensional ? Working in 3D gives the whole thing a bit more impact I think. It's funny how everyone associates that medium with Pixar and Hollywood special effects, and then I end up making some dodgy old lumps with it! ----------------------------- See more gummy gifs on Jelly Gummies Tumblr and follow Sam's work process on Instagram.
