We came across Madrona 2 years ago on our IG feed and have been obsessed with her artistic and intricate looks ever since. Since I’m the baby of my family and always the youngest of my friends. I’m a child at heart!
Most iconic meme of 2021 I LOVE the memes about how people with air fryers think they are superior (or that their food is) because when I talk to my sister she mentions her air fryer every. single. time. (swipe to see)
Which make-up look have you loved the most? I don’t have a favorite but these two are awesome. Circa 2017 and 2019. (right)
If you could live in a different era, which would it be?
That’s a tough one! I inherited a deep love of history from my dad and am obsessed with the 1770s, 1830s and the 1920s, but as a woman of color I would NOT want to live in those times. I am a huge 80s fan and it had, in my opinion, harder and cooler video games (honorable mentions: Bomb Jack, Mappy, Xevious, Rolling Thunder, Marble Madness, and the absolutely impossible Smash TV) This isn’t even mentioning all the little things I admire about the 80s like it being common for children to have homemade clothes, you could have shop class in school, feathered hair, and the architecture (I despise the modernization of fast food joints). My parents have said amazing things about the 80s but also highlighted the MANY negatives so I would only go in with about 50% rose colored glasses.
What have you learned about yourself in the last year? I lived alone for a month last year for work and I learned that I could take care of myself and make it on my own if I had to. I am painfully shy and for a long time I wouldn’t even leave the house alone, so that makes me more confident.
Which album do you like getting ready to? Hands down Flood by They Might Be Giants. I think it’s comparable to The Simpsons in that they can both be enjoyed by all ages. My parents would always play this album when my sister and I were young and I adored it because it was goofy, after all they sing about worms whistling in the dark and birdhouses in your soul. Now I can understand the genius behind the lyrics and the more I learn in general the more I appreciate their references. The icing on the cake is that, for me at least, it’s the type of album you can throw on and not have to skip a single song.
If you could be someone else for a day who would it be? I would be a citizen of Hamelin, Germany in the late 1200s. This is where and when the legend of the Pied Piper comes from, and ever since my dad and I watched The Pied Piper (1972) starring Donovan we’ve been dying to find out what actually happened, since many signs point to an actual tragic event involving the children (or general youth) of Hamelin. That sounds morbid, but after hearing the story I can’t help but wonder how a real event could eventually be turned into something so fantastical.
What is the weirdest object you've used to apply makeup to your face? I’m stuck between a power drill or a ceiling fan...
Is there anything that you have regretted putting on your face?
Makeup wise no (getting makeup in my eye sucks but it doesn’t make me regret putting it on) but I did make a cinnamon face mask once (I wouldn’t recommend it) and forgot to add agave and that burned.
Would you say you're messy or tidy? I am THE messiest person I have ever met! To quote Lenny Leonardson, “Please don’t tell anyone how I live”
What luxury item would you take to a desert island? A satellite phone so I can still talk to people.
Where are you most excited to to go when lockdown ends?
Once the pandemic is settled I want to go somewhere tropical! I would love to return to Hawaii or go to Miami for the first time.
